I remember going on holidas to the Norfold Broads with my family years ago when my Dad brought back some bars of chocolate that I'd never heard of before. They had cool paper wrappers instead of horrible cheapy plastic things and nice shiny foil paper underneath and were different colours depending on what kind they were. I remember red and blue were the main ones... I noticed too that they were an old company, that had been making chocolate for many years, smooth and tasty since the 1880's, and that they were British. I'm a bit of a nerd like that, but still, its nice to see isn't it? Then unfortunately I kind of forgot about them. You don't see them much up north regretably; more often it's that giant of a brand that used to be good until they started moving their factories elsewhere and putting salmonella and other things in there that i dont really fancy having. However! Much later, with an ex-seafaring grandfather that fancied another spell on the wheel of a Broads pleasure cruiser I found myself returning with family, chugging through Norwich, past the Colmans factory (incidentally, another great institution) and getting the smell of mint and vinegar in the air (must have been a mint sauce day, unless it always smells like that... or maybe sometimes they have a horseraddish day or a mustard day...) and then once again I came accross some Caley's chocolate. A true fan now since. So on the day that that salmonella company finally displayed it's true colours and turned it's back on the people who made it great, what better time to celebrate a greater company, with greater values, that didn't avoid fair proces for cocoa, and continually shows throught and intuition. If there's one company that will make good British chocolate in a nice paper wrapper with shiny letters on, with old world design echoing history, experience and reliability and a time when people took care in what they crafted (instead of mixing salmonella in it), printed on recycled paper and containing delicious traditional fair tade chocolate, its going to be Caley's!
