The chocolate bars and drinks you see on our website and in the shops are all made in our very own chocolate factory here in the UK. This enables us to control every aspect of making fine chocolate products and ensures we use only the finest ingredients.

Many of the original chocolate manufacturers in the UK were originally setup as family businesses, as was the case with Caley’s. Today the company is once again family-run. Having always maintained a strong sense of community, today’s global marketplace means that we are able to extend this to the producers and growers of our raw materials such as cocoa and sugar. A key part of this is by using Fairtrade ingredients. Caley’s have been making Fairtrade products since 2004 and are working very hard to make all of their products Fairtrade by June 2008. See our section ‘About Fairtrade’ for more information.

Our founder, Albert Jarman Caley was quick to see the potential of chocolate manufacture. In 1883 he commenced the production of chocolate products at his Fleur de Lys works in the heart of Norwich, and laid the foundations for our reputation.

Such was the quality and demand for these products that Royal Warrants were granted for many of them, including our famous Marching Chocolate, a familiar product in the British troops' kit bags during the Great War.

More recently we have re-designed the packaging of many of our products to have a more contemporary image, whilst maintaining our strong heritage and, of course, our policy of using only the finest ingredients continues. Word of our products is spreading and they can now be found in an increasing number of stores around the UK, including Tesco and Waitrose, as well as many independent stores and wholesalers.

We are, of course, extremely proud of our Norfolk roots and have recently opened our first 'Cocoa Cafe' venue in the prestigious setting of the 15th Century Guildhall in the centre of Norwich - a must for any visitor to this fine city. Here you can enjoy the Caley’s chocolate experience in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. See our ‘Cocoa Cafe’ section of this website for more information.
